PISFCC held our inaugural Annual General Meeting on Saturday 12 October at the University of the South Pacific, Emalus Campus, Port Vila, Vanuatu.

At the meeting the members present reviewed, discussed and approved final amendments to the PISFCC Constitution. This means PISFCC can proceed to be formally registered as a not-for-profit organization under Vanuatu law through the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission.

While registered in Vanuatu, our Constitution not only allows us to have members from throughout the Pacific region, we are obligated to seek at all times to represent and grow our membership in all Pacific islands countries.

Members were very pleased to hear about all the remarkable progress we have made since we first formed in early 2019.

Some highlights:

-       We organized and facilitated Storian Blong Yumi - the first public event in Vanuatu focused on connecting and discussing human rights and climate change.

-       We were invited to the Pacific Island Development Forum where our President presented to a plenary session calling on leaders to support our ICJ AO.

-       We had two of our members representing us at the UN Secretary General’s Youth Climate Summit in New York in September. They were UNSG’s Green Ticket holders, meaning their applications were chosen out of 7000 applicants and only 100 were selected in the world.

-       We conducted a campaign that was successful in ensuring that the 2019 PIF Communique recognized and included the option of PIC governments supporting an International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion on climate change and human rights.

-       We received support from some of the world’s most pre-eminent international law professors for our ICJ Campaign.

-       We helped organize, in partnership with VCAN, and participated in the first ever Vanuatu Strike for Climate Emergency.

The meeting also heard about our great and exciting plans for 2020, so please,

STAY TUNED AND WATCH THIS SPACE FOR SOME VERY EXCITING NEWS IN COMING WEEKS AND MONTHS!
