Camila

Batalibasi

Camilla Anibirisi Batalibasi is a native daughter of Solomon Islands. She is an active Christian and Gospel artist. As an avid songwriter, she pursues the deeper meaning of a topic which provokes the audiences to think beyond the music.

A lawyer by profession, her experiences in a small Island developing state has been the fuel to her explosive passion to raise awareness on the broad issues affecting the Pacific Islanders. Furthermore, Camilla’s willingness to participate in the ‘Islands are Calling’ is her testimony on the suffering of her people of the Langa Langa Lagoon from the adverse effects of climate change. By utilizing one of the most effective platforms to contribute to the collective fight against climate change, Camilla took action.

She has come to appreciate and acknowledge the importance of climate change advocacy initiatives such as this.

Her message to the listeners:

‘I believe each and everyone of us is responsible for each other and for mother earth as well.  Whatever you can do to help advocate and help address the current global issue of climate change, little as it may seem, should never be taken lightly.’

Heinz Dee Koromako

Hailing from Malaita and Tipokia, Heinz has both Melanesian and Polynesian origins. As an innovative entrepreneur, Heinz wears more than one hat. He is the media person for the National Youth Council of Solomon Islands, a youth leader in his community (Ngossi Ridge) and a positive artist.

What started off as a hobby has led to a professional music career of ODD18. His unorthodox music style and conscious wordplay have become a powerful weapon he utilizes in his advocacy work towards socio-economic issues youth’s face in the Solomon Islands. The hip-hop, pop, rap, reggae and Island artist’s emergence to the music space has brought nothing but positivity and praise from both his peers and leaders.

Emancipated from a painful past, Heinz is now dedicating his life towards giving back to the youth development of his community and country. By channeling his passion and energy towards music advocacy has brought him satisfaction and peace.

When botched with the idea of contributing to the ‘The Islands are Calling’, Heinz confidently accepted as it resonates well with his forte.

His advice especially towards the youthful audience is this,

‘By being ignorant towards the solution we become part of the problem. Be conscious of your actions, it is central to your future, your actions are your investments. Know where you will invest in. Once you do, invest passionately and be rewarded in blessing.’
